#mbed – an #opensource #OS for the #InternetOfThings by #ARM
ARM® mbed™ OS is an open source embedded operating system designed specifically for the “things” in the Internet of Things (IoT). It includes all the features you need to develop a connected product based on an ARM Cortex-M microcontroller, and is perfect for applications including smart cities, smart homes and wearables.
mbed OS forms the client-side portion of the mbed IoT Device Platform on microcontrollers, and is designed to work in concert with mbed Device Connector, mbed Device Server, and mbed Client. Together this platform lets you deliver comprehensive IoT solutions.
In reality its like open source, but actualy not,
The idea is, you run the open-source mbed OS on devices, and ARM’s middleware on the backend to talk to and control the gizmos. The entire stack isn’t, however, open source: the systems running the show at the back use ARM’s device server product; and down on the devices, some binary blobs are needed to initialize the hardware and ensure trusted firmware is executed. – http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/09/08/arm_mbed_os_beta/
ARM has planed to #opensource on Apache 2.0 license as well in commercial licenses.
In truth its ARM’s effort to control the #NextBigThing.. Lets wait and see who is gona make!
